Fitness & Wellness

Fitness & Wellness software development

Coaching platforms, workout and meditation apps and studio management systems, designed around daily habits and built for subscriptions.

01Fitness & Wellness

Fitness and wellness apps that keep members coming back

A fitness or wellness product needs to work between sessions, not only during a demonstration. Members may be following a programme, watching a lesson, recording a workout or asking a coach a question. Coaches need a different view: programme publishing, progress, communication and the exceptions that need attention. We map those connected responsibilities before deciding whether the first release needs a web portal, a mobile app or both.

The operating model matters as much as the content. A studio selling class packs has different access rules from a coach selling a subscription or a creator selling a one-off programme. We define what the member has bought, what they can access, how that changes after a cancellation and who can resolve a payment problem. That gives the product a consistent membership model rather than a collection of screens around a video library.

02Challenges

What makes Fitness & Wellness software hard

  • 01

    Retention after week four

Most fitness apps lose the majority of new users within a month.

  • 02

    Content at scale

Programmes, videos and plans that need constant updating.

  • 03

    Studio operations

Bookings, memberships and payments spread across several tools.

  • 04

    Personalisation

Generic plans that don't adapt to each member's progress.

03What we build

Fitness & Wellness solutions we deliver

  • 01

    Coaching platforms

Programmes, check-ins, messaging and progress tracking for coaches and clients.

  • 02

Plans that adjust to each member's results and schedule.

04Considerations

Built in from the first sprint

The requirements we plan for on every project in this sector.

  • App store subscription rules
  • Health data privacy
  • Offline-first media playback
  • Wearable and health API integrations

Integrations in practice

  • 01

    Memberships, subscriptions and entitlements

Web payments and app-store billing may describe the same member's access in different ways. We map purchases, renewals, cancellations and refunds to an explicit entitlement model. The coach dashboard and the member app should agree on access without requiring someone to maintain a spreadsheet. Reconciliation helps support investigate a payment that succeeded without the expected programme appearing.

  • 02

    Programmes, media and progress

A programme can change while members are already following it. We define publishing, version behaviour and how progress is retained. Media delivery needs a plan for interrupted playback and offline access when included in the scope. A completed session, a timer result and a coach's note are separate records with their own meaning, rather than interchangeable engagement counters.

  • 03

    Wearables and coaching workflows

Where health or device data is part of the product, we review the available interfaces, user permissions and supported measurements before designing a dashboard. The product should explain the source and age of information. Coaching recommendations and notifications follow the approved programme and review model; the software does not silently turn a device reading into an unapproved health decision.

How we verify the work

We test the member's journey through joining, purchasing, starting a programme, losing connectivity and returning later. The coaching journey includes publishing a change, finding a member who needs attention and responding with the correct context. Supported devices, accessibility and notification permissions are part of those tests. A polished onboarding screen is not enough if a member cannot reliably resume the session they paid for.

Release planning includes app distribution, subscription-state changes and the information the support team needs to investigate a problem. Data access, exports and deletion are defined with your stakeholders, especially when personal progress or health-related information is involved. Handover includes the entitlement rules, content workflow and operational procedures. We scope the behaviours the product must support without inventing a retention or health-outcome promise.

09FAQ

Frequently asked questions

View pricing guide
Can you build for both coaches and their clients?

Yes. Most coaching products need a coach dashboard and a client app that share the same data.

Do you handle in-app subscriptions?

Yes, including App Store and Google Play billing, web checkout and entitlement syncing.

Can members use the app without a connection?

Offline behaviour is scoped by the workflow. Downloaded media, workout timers and queued progress updates need explicit storage and synchronization rules. We agree which features work offline, how conflicts are resolved and what happens when access changes, then test interrupted and resumed sessions on supported devices.

How do web and app-store subscriptions stay consistent?

We map provider events to a shared entitlement model and handle renewals, cancellations and refunds explicitly. Support needs a way to reconcile payment records with the access shown in the app. The design follows the product's distribution and billing requirements rather than assuming all channels behave identically.

Can you work with our existing coaching platform?

Yes. We inspect its code, content model, payment connections and member data before choosing a first change. Integrating a new mobile experience or improving a specific workflow may be more appropriate than rebuilding everything. The proposal identifies compatibility, migration and handover responsibilities.

What drives the cost of a fitness application?

The member and coach journeys, platforms, media handling, subscriptions, device integrations and migration needs determine the scope. A focused timer and a complete coaching platform are different builds. We agree the first usable release and a written estimate, with relevant MVP and product ranges in the pricing guide.
